John Shorey - Author Hockey Made Easy

John Shorey is a Canadian who was born and raised in Brockville, Ontario Canada.

For forty plus years he has been directly involved in all aspects of hockey.

John played his Minor Hockey in Brockville beginning in the Atom House League before advancing to numerous All-Star Teams. At the age of sixteen, he made the jump to the Junior "A" Hockey League, winning the League's Rookie of the Year Award.

John was rewarded for his successful rookie season by being invited to the Toronto Marlboros Major Junior "A" training camp, the top Junior farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sidelined by a serious leg injury he did not attend and his Major Junior "A" hockey aspirations ended. After a year of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, he returned to hockey and signed with the Brockville Braves Junior "A" Hockey Club, which was a farm team of the Chicago Black Hawks.

He played with the Braves for two seasons. Those seasons he finished second in team scoring his first season and led the Club in his final year.

Upon graduating from Junior "A", he went to Europe and played two seasons of Professional hockey, first in Italy as a Player-Coach and then in Holland. Upon his return to Canada he was invited to play Intermediate hockey. His team won the Ottawa District Championship in his second season.

The next season, Shorey retired from competitive hockey and joined the Brockville Tikis Junior "B" Hockey Club as an Assistant Coach. Coach Shorey dedicated the next thirteen years to the Junior "B" program serving in different capacities.

He spent ten years as head coach developing a number of players who went on to play Junior "A", Major Junior "A" and University hockey. During these years, John completed Level 1, 2 and 3 of the Canadian National Coaches Certification Program and attended numerous coaching seminars and workshops.

John Shorey - Author of Hockey Made Easy

John Shorey loves hockey and still plays twice per week. He is described as a "student of the game" seeking new ways to improve the game and skill level of the players. He initiated a unique Hockey Clinic for Beginners, Novice, Atom and PeeWee aged players (4-12) and their parents.

Using a school  classroom and gym setting he taught the basic skills and systems of hockey. He believes teaching players of this age is essential to help them understand, improve and reach their full potential to advance successfully through the different levels of Minor Hockey to Junior "B" and Junior "A".

This manual is based on John Shorey's teaching philosophy and will improve everyone's hockey knowledge and skill level who reads it.

John Shorey is presently the President of the Rideau St Lawrence Junior "B" hockey league for the Past 23 years and is a scout for a Canadian Junior "A" team.

On June 1st 2004, John Shorey was awarded by Hockey Canada for recognition for valued contribution for Junior Hockey.
